Proposed Layout of the
Seekoei Valley Private Game Reserve - Farm Borders.
This is a new conservation initiative by P.C. Ferreira after he successfully re-introduced
hippos back into the Karoo in 2005. The Seekoei River is a 300 km desert stream that flows
from south to north.
It starts with 3 branches in the New Bethesda, Richmond and Noupoort district and meanders
down to the Van der Kloof dam in the Gariep River close to Colesberg. It runs through 57 farms,
expanding over a total area of more or less 450 000 ha.
PC’s plan is to offer these farmers free access to buffalo, rhino and other species in
co-operation with Northern Cape Nature conservation. At present, 4 farmers have already signed
the land incorporation offer, and the nature reserve cover 30 000 ha.
Our main goal is to create an environment that is tourism friendly. To boost economy and
social structures and to re-create a habitat for the species that has roamed these flood plains
hundreds of years ago.
